Holidays Finally!!!!
Its been very long since i came up with anything here. Exams kept me on my toes. Exam time- that time of the semester again when the table is strewn with xerox material and huge books; the time when for the first time, there is a compromise on sleep and food, when my "timepassing" attribute takes a back seat and there is an atmosphere of seriousness for a change ;) Now that they are over, its time to put a big fullstop to sleepless night-outs and start eating lots and lots. The feeling after finishing the last exam is generally great and very relieving. I heaved a sigh of relief as i closed the cap of my pen and placed it in my shirt pocket after answering the last question in my question paper, the half-blanche sheet that had more printed matter than my answer sheet itself ;) I felt as if I had waited so long for this, and now when things near the climax, I just can't wait for even a second . I just stuffed the answer sheet into the invigilator`s hands and ran out to meet my friends. Refusing to discuss the paper, I just pulled my friends to the juice shop and drank 3 juices till my thirst satiated. Then came the fun part. Some departments had elective papers on the day after our last day and so they became the unfortunate third years and we, the relieved fourth years :D. We met our seniors and started telling that we all are in the same year now as they still had their comprehensive viva exams left!!! :P. This is the most horrible thing that one can ever face; when there is a realization that there is more to study when everyone else is happily leaving college!!! Rightly referred to by a friend of mine as "sathya sodhanai" in tamil .. :P
With water shortage and horrible sweltering heat doing its rounds on the last day, and with the boring part of packing as an addendum, it was great fun to leave hostel after finishing all packing and cleaning. A sumptuous dinner at an excellent restaurant in the city finished with a dessert that lingered in my taste buds till the next day!! :) .. For a change, a train journey was really enjoyable even though i slept off immediately. I guess this is the greatest thought for a lifetime. Everything seems pleasant and enjoyable when the mind is calm, free and relieved!!!:)
As i begin my holidays, i m going to keep this space updated frequently. So keep reading :)

A musical night-out...
Different people have disparate notions of music. For some people music is everything in life. For some others, its just an avocation. Music is something that is very close to my heart. I hear a myriad of genres and enjoy them totally. But what does it take to create or rather re-create music? Something that was a dream for me came to fruition on one night. The most general connotations associated with the term music are joy and more importantly satisfaction. I did experience that joy and satisfaction recently. For the first time in my college life, I had to kill a day`s sleep for a non-academic cause, which of all things happened to for Nittfest.
"A duet?? Me n another guy?? "!!! .. We were to sing a song together and for such a situation, the first song that flashed my mind was the Rajni-Sathyaraj starrer "Ennama Kannu" from the movie Mr.Bharath. The parts pertaining to Rajni were to be sung by me and the other part by a friend of mine. Our show was on the following day at 8AM. And we hadn't practiced even once. So it was 10 PM when we met and tried singing it together, just to realize that our pitches were way beyond synchronism. Come what may, we just decided to keep it this way and rehearsed quite a few times. Then comes Varun, a music troupe inmate, a friend of mine whom we had called to have a mild musical base to support the song. He listened to the song and came up with a suggestion. The very first thing he told us was that we had lot of time!!! Me and my friend were staring at each other, for it was 1 PM now and we had very less time left. Then he said "Forget your sleep tonight". Now that is what gave me the bent. He suggested a different song.. "Pachai Nirame" from the film Alaipayuthey. So we started listening to the song and he enumerated the finer details of the song which we had to incorporate to make it harmonious. By now, we were already half satisfied with this guy proving his mettle over the keyboard, something i regret for not learning when i was a kid. We rehearsed for 5 hours continuously, and during this time the phenomenon of "Sleep" not crossing my mind even once. We were so involved that we never even checked the time. It was amazing to watch this dexterous guy play the instrument with such speed and authority. By the end of the session, we were quite confident that we could make an impact in the show.
Whether we won or not is not yet known to me. But winning has never mattered to me. It was fun, it was satisfying, and enthralling for it was another page in the book titled "My Experiments with Music".
Musically Yours...
